Milford High School Tennis Boosters
Time: 9:00 AM Location: Milford High School Tennis Courts Description: Buccaneer Open Tennis Tournament Fundraiser to Support Tennis Program at Milford High School To help build Milford's tennis program, the Boosters will host the First Annual Buccaneer Open Tennis Tournament. Girls' Coach Jackie Powers explains, “Our hope is that the tournament will start strong and grow larger each year to bring tennis enthusiasts of all ages to our area. We think this fundraiser will be a fun way to bring the tennis community together as a yearly tradition.” The Buccaneer Open is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, starting at 9:30, with check in between 8:30 – 9:15. The rain date is Saturday, May 5. For the first year, the double-elimination tournament will be open to adults and will be structured with mixed doubles through random draw with brackets grouped by age. There will be a consolation round. Participants will receive a Buccaneer Open tournament shirt and awards will be given. The entry fee is $20 per player (or $40 per team). register online at: www.buccaneeropen.eventbrite.com For those who wish to support Milford's tennis program, donations of any amount are also being accepted by mail or via the online link. For sponsorship information, email or call the coaches. The event is sponsored by Downes Insurance, Bayhealth, i.g. Burton, L&W Insurance, and the MHS Tennis Boosters. Registrations and donations can be mailed to: Coaches Jackie Powers and Keegan Worley; Milford High School; 1019 N. Walnut Street, Milford, DE. 19963.rnrnFor current event info or to keep up with the Bucs, check out the team's Facebook page at @MilfordBucsTennis Why is this necessary Over the past five years, Milford's program has produced four Henlopen Southern Division Championships, two Coach of the Year honors, and the Best Sportsmanship award for the state of Delaware. “We are looking forward to another promising season this year. We have a talented group of athletes that are ready to work hard to continue to continue our success”, notes Girls' Coach Jacqueline Powers. One of Milford's goals is to win the Southern Division Championship this year for Milford Boys and Girls Tennis. The Girls' team won the Henlopen Southern Conference last year.rnNext year, Milford will move into the Northern division, facing an established field of competitors. In advance of that move, the Bucs have a plan to advance their level of play. Unlike many of their competitors in the Henlopen North, the Bucs have no youth tennis program. “Most high school athletes come out with no experience and or knowledge of the game, this is something we would like to change,” explains Powers. The team plans to hold multiple clinics throughout the year to inspire local youth to play tennis. While Milford Parks and Rec does offer tennis programs, the Milford area is without an indoor facility like players on teams in the Dover, Lewes and Bethany areas enjoy. There are also several spring sports that compete for current high school athletes. But that isn't stopping the Bucs from setting goals and moving forward.rnrnThe Milford tennis program will need to supply equipment, signs, score cards, and additional practice tennis balls. These items are needed for regular season play next season and to support the youth tennis clinics. Athletes could also benefit from new tennis rackets, grips and or even tennis shoes to be able to play the game to the best of their ability. rn Proceeds Benefit: Milford High Tennis Program For more information contact: Jackie Powers jpowers@msd.k12.de.us or visit buccaneeropen.eventbrite.com

National Association Of Letter Carriers
Time: All Day Location: Nationwide Description: Saturday, May 11th marks the 27th anniversary of one of America’s great days of giving-the National Association of Letter Carriers STAMP OUT HUNGER Food drive. Letter Carriers walk through the community every day, often coming face to face with a sad reality for too many, hunger. So, each year on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers across the country collect non-perishable food donations from our customers. These donations go directly to local food pantries to provide food to people in your community who need our help. Last year, we collected over 71.6 million pounds of food nationally, feeding an estimated 64 million people. Over the course of the 26-year history, the drive has collected well over 1,67 billion pounds of food, thanks to a postal service universal delivery network that spans the entire nation, including Puerto Rico, Guam and U.S. Virgin Islands. Lower Delaware alone collected 130,668 pounds. We hope to expand on this number in 2019. The need for food donations is great. Currently, 42 million Americans-1 in 6-are unsure where their next meal is coming from. Sixteen million are children who feel hunger’s impact on their overall health and ability to perform in school. And nearly 5 million seniors over age 60 are food insecure, with many who live on fixed incomes often too embarrassed to ask for help. Our food drive’s timing is critical. Food banks and pantries often receive the majority of their donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons. By springtime, many pantries are deleted, entering the summer low on supplies at a time when many school breakfast and lunch programs are not available to children in need. Participating in this year’s Letter Carrier Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is simple. Just leave a non-perishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox on Saturday, May 11th and your letter carrier will do the rest. Please help us in our fight to end hunger, as we celebrate our 27th anniversary in America’s great day of giving. Sincerely, Susan Henderson Letter Carrier, Dover, DE 302-331-6027 Proceeds Benefit: Local food banks For more information contact: Susan Henderson (302)331-6027 or visit nalc.org/food
